Job Title: Special Education - Instructional Support Program: Early Childhood Education Division: PreKEEP Columbia Rd/Upshur Classification: Part Time- Exempt Location: All sites; Washington, DC; MD Reports to: Director of Counseling Services Job Summary: This part time position will work directly with teachers and children to support the development and learning process of children with identified or suspected special needs. This position will collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and responsive environment that promotes school readiness goals. This is a contractual position. Essential responsibilities:Coordinate and collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce developmental and school readiness goals in the implementation of IEP and ISFP goalsProvide behavioral and educational support to children with special needs and accompanying them during lunch, field trips, and other outingsEnsure that there are appropriate materials that create, warm, safe and educationally challenging indoor and outdoor environments for childrenCollaborate with teachers and parents in using required developmental screening instruments and uploading the information in COPA data baseCollaborate with teachers in planning individual activities to stimulate learning, according to ages of children and that foster independence, trust and emotional securitySupport Director of Counseling Services in developing and maintaining a centralized record keeping system that ensures confidentiality of each child; develops records and documentation related to children's progress, and maintain records up to dateParticipate in the development of Individualized Family Service Plans for children with a qualifying diagnosis and monitor children's progress in meeting the plan goalsSupport Director of Counseling in the evaluation and referral procedures to facilitate the coordination of services with other child service agencies and providersPrepare and provide timely and accurate written reports and narrative information as required or requested to identify children's progressDemonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgroundsOther duties as assigned. Expected Work hours: A maximum of 32 hours a week. Travel Some traveling is expected for this position.
