Love Yourself this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is infamous for its focus on couples and putting that special someone you love first. However, that doesn’t always have to be the case. Society has conditioned us to believe that we have to look outside ourselves for love but you can’t truly love another until you love yourself.

According to author, Julie Reisler of 'Get a PhD in YOU: A Course in Miraculous Self-Discovery,' “The most important relationship is to have one first with you yourself.”When you give more love to yourself, you’re able to give more love to the planet.”

In preparation for Valentine’s Day this year, reposition your energy on yourself with these four ways to practice self-love:

Write yourself a love note

Take the time to write down everything you admire about yourself. Cast away the self-doubt and flaws and focus on all of the gifts you have to offer others. Reisler suggests putting the note on your mirror or in your car as a “constant reminder of your self-worth.”

Pamper yourself

Indulge in all the things that make you happy. Do whatever it is that creates passion and excitement in your life. Whether it’s a walk in nature, cuddling up with a good book or a trip to the nail salon, set the time aside to care for yourself.

Put your phone away

Between our cell phones, laptops and televisions, our minds are constantly stimulated. Unplug and get in tune with yourself without any distractions.

Take yourself on a date

Put on your Sunday best and go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. “You get to choose the place, the time and the energy which is good for the soul,” says Reisler.

Whatever you decide to do this Valentine’s Day, make sure you put yourself at the forefront.
