Fifty years ago, four freshmen at North Carolina A&T stood up against racism by sitting down at a lunch counter in Greensboro, N.C.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Bennett College President Julianne Malveaux and activist Ben Chavis are among the speakers at a town hall launching the 50th anniversary commemoration of the sit-in movement launched in Greensboro, N.C., on Feb. 1, 1960. Here are other events:
